What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle touch bodywork modality that blends the physiological and energetic to facilitate deep healing for both adults and children.  The aim of this work is to release that which is impeding a free flow of the cerebrospinal fluid which travels from the cranium (skull) to the sacrum along the spinal cord.  Anywhere this flow has been interrupted can result in a variety of sensory, motor and neurological issues as it interfaces most directly with the central nervous system which is responsible for so many of the body's functions.

Craniosacral Therapy helps to ease a newborn's transition into life outside the womb.  Birth is a big deal. This work helps the newborn begin to integrate all of this new sensory information and stimulation. Newborn babies as young as hours old can be treated with Craniosacral Therapy as it is extremely gentle and non-invasive, applying no more than 5 grams of pressure, the equivalent to the weight of a nickel. Babies receiving this work have the opportunity to unwind and release problem areas, relieving undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord before they become more deeply etched patterns with resulting issues.  Craniosacral Therapy is used as both a preventative measure as well as treatment and is recommended by La Leche League.

Some conditions that may be avoided or improved by treating newborns are:

colic

problems sucking, swallowing &/or latching

hearing problems

chronic ear infections

mobility issues

TMJ

headaches/ migraines

digestive issues

reflux

autism

torticolis
